The Hindalaga jail, one of the largest prisons in the state, is without protection for its staff. In fear for the lives created by the inmates, the staff themselves are forced to live with fear. The staff members who were brutally assaulted have lodged a complaint against the inmates for asking them to follow the rules.
The assaulted staff has been admitted to a hospital and Vinod Lokapur, a warder of Hindalaga jail, was attacked. Vinod, who was attacked is undergoing treatment at BIMS hospital. Rahil alias Rohan, a prisoner who was deported from Hassan and shifted to Belagavi’s Hindalaga jail was in the high-security wing. The inmates have assaulted the staff four or five times in the past few days.
Vinod, who was seriously injured, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Though the matter of assault by the prisoner was brought to the notice of the higher authorities, the staff was afraid to come to work as they were fed up with the goondaism of the inmates.
The staff has been attacked in the past as well and no action has been taken. Vinod, the staff member who was attacked, has appealed to the higher authorities to take action at least now.
