Dharmasthala police have arrested three persons and recovered 104g of gold ornaments worth Rs 7.8 lakh in connection with a house robbery case reported at Kalmanja in Belthangady taluk on June 26, 2020.
Dakshina Kannada SP Ryshyanth CB told reporters on Monday that those arrested are Nawaz from Bengaluru, Riyaz from Mundaje and Krishna, originally hailing from Kalaburagi and now residing in Bengaluru.
Acting on a tip-off that gold was being sold without documents, police arrested Nawaz. During the inquiry, he provided information about the robbery at the house of Achuth Bhat in 2020.
Based on the information provided by him, the police further arrested Riyaz, Nawaz’s brother and Krishna. Two more suspects are still at large, he said.
Furthermore, the SP mentioned that based on intelligence inputs and local contacts, the police were able to crack the case.
The police team, including the inspector, sub-inspector, and other staff involved in the case, will be suitably rewarded and given a ‘good service’ entry. As per the preliminary investigation, there were five members in the gang when the robbery was committed, the SP added.
It may be recalled that miscreants broke into the house of Achuth Bhat in the early hours of June 26, 2020. They tied up Achuth, his brother’s wife, and mother using a cloth, and assaulted and threatened them. They decamped with 30 to 35 sovereigns of gold ornaments, 1kg of silver ornaments, mobile phones, and cash worth Rs 12.4 lakh. They had allegedly threatened to set the house on fire.
