To tackle accidents in the city, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has initiated a special drive late at night to curb drunken driving. Over 17,361 motorists have been screened across the city as part of this effort. A press release from the Bengaluru Traffic Police indicates that a total of 386 drivers have been booked for drunken driving.
The urgency of such measures was underscored by a incident on May 19, where a bike rider lost his life and a pillion rider sustained injuries in an accident caused by an inebriated driver on Subramanya Nagar main road under Malleswaram traffic police station limits. The deceased, identified as Vinay aged 32, hailed from Subramanya Nagar.
The driver of the car, Harinath, was found to be under the influence of alcohol even after the accident. He was arrested by the Malleswaram traffic police in connection with the incident.
