An attempted assault and robbery on female students at Karnataka University (KVV) have recently been brought to light. The perpetrators remain unidentified. Students are expressing frustration over the lack of action from the university administration despite a week passing since the incidents.
The Vice Chancellor responded by stating that on May 14th, while heading to the university library, an unknown individual attempted to snatch a mobile phone. He explained that due to being engaged in a conference on the 14th and 15th, he didn’t immediately file a complaint but later did so to initiate a local investigation. He mentioned the ongoing efforts to enhance security measures, including constructing protective walls and installing CCTV cameras across the campus.
In response, Law and Order DCP Kushal Chowkse mentioned that a case has been registered at the Dharwad Suburban Police Station and investigations are underway. He acknowledged reports of a person disturbing students while riding a bike and assured that CCTV footage is being reviewed. The university has been instructed to bolster security measures.
The campus, sprawling over 888 acres, faces challenges with intruders due to its vast size. Despite previous police presence, there is currently no officer stationed within the university premises. Authorities have been urged multiple times to address this concern.
