In North 24 Parganas District of West Bengal, a court on Friday granted 12 days of custody to Jihad Hawaldar, the suspect in the Bangladesh MP murder case, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This case revolves around the mysterious death of Bangladesh MP Md Anwarul Azim.

Hawaldar, who entered India illegally from Bangladesh, confessed to the CID that he was hired and brought from Mumbai to Kolkata for the crime. He admitted to being part of the group that killed and disposed of the MP’s body. During the court session on Friday, the CID requested Hawaldar’s custody, stating that further questioning could unveil crucial leads in the murder case.

CID sources disclosed that Hawaldar is facing murder charges in Bangladesh as well. He was chosen for his skill in butchery, specifically in skinning bodies and chopping flesh.

As the deceased MP’s body parts were disposed of in different locations, CID officials face a challenging task in recovering them. With the granted custody, CID will intensify interrogation to determine potential locations where the body parts might have been discarded.

Md Anwarul Azim, a three-time MP from Bangladesh, arrived in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment. Initially staying at a friend’s residence, he disappeared on May 14, leaving his phone switched off, and hasn’t been seen since.
