VP Dhankar Reaches Tehran To Pay Condolences On Demise Of Iran Prez Raisi

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Tehran on Wednesday afternoon to pay condolences and attend the memorial ceremony of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and other officials who died in a tragic helicopter crash.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also died in the chopper crash on Sunday afternoon.

Hon’ble Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar was received by Iranian authorities on his arrival in Tehran today, his office wrote in a post on X.

VP Dhankhar will attend the official ceremony to pay condolences on the demise of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister H. Amir-Abdollahian, of Iran, it added.

The Vice President departed for Iran in the early morning hours on Wednesday (May 22). Meanwhile. thousands of people took to the streets in Iran as the funeral ceremony of Raisi began Friday in the city of Tabriz in the north-western region where the chopper in which he was travelling crashed on Sunday.

President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have conveyed their condolences to the government and people of Iran.

The Iranian government has declared Wednesday as a public holiday when a funeral is expected to be held in Tehran with the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah leading prayers.
