Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the Tihar jail superintendent on Monday, claiming that he has been asking for daily insulin due to a spike in his blood sugar levels, according to sources in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Kejriwal disputed the jail authorities’ assertion that AIIMS doctors said there was no cause for concern about his health.

In the letter, Kejriwal accused the jail administration of lying under political pressure. According to AAP sources, he said that his blood sugar levels rise three times during the day, reaching between 250 and 320. The CM also refuted the Tihar administration’s statement that AIIMS doctors found no cause for concern, asserting that the doctors said they would assess his condition based on his medical history.

The Tihar administration issued a statement on Sunday stating that Kejriwal had a 40-minute video consultation with AIIMS specialists on April 20. During this call, Kejriwal was advised to continue with his current medication, and there was no discussion about insulin.

Kejriwal has been in Tihar jail since April 1, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy. The AAP has accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal and alleged a conspiracy to harm him.
