Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini, with women officers aboard, completed a historic expedition to Port Louis in Mauritius and has safely returned to its base port in Goa, officials reported on Monday. The journey lasted nearly two months, starting from INS Mandovi, Goa, to Port Louis, Mauritius on February 28. This expedition, flagged off by renowned circumnavigator Cdr Abhilash Tomy (Retd), was a significant achievement for the Indian Navy.

Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A, the women officers of the Indian Navy, undertook this challenging voyage in collaboration with the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA). They made history as the first Indians to accomplish such a feat after navigating the Indian Ocean for 22 days to reach Port Louis on March 24.

During their stay in Mauritius, the officers engaged in various events, interacting with officials from the Mauritius Coast Guard and the Indian High Commission. They also had a joint training session with the Mauritius Coast Guard personnel, enhancing bilateral ties. Despite facing harsh weather conditions on their return journey, the officers displayed incredible seamanship and courage, highlighting the Indian Navy’s dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women in maritime activities. Their success serves as an inspiration for future generations, with plans for another challenging voyage, a global circumnavigation, scheduled to begin in September.
