At the Kazakhstan International Challenge tournament in Uralsk, Indian badminton players Anupama Upadhyaya and Tharun Mannepalli emerged victorious in the women’s and men’s singles categories respectively. Nineteen-year-old Anupama, hailing from Almora, secured her second consecutive title by defeating compatriot Isharani Baruah in the final. Tharun, aged 22, clinched his maiden international title by defeating eighth-seeded Malaysian Soong Joo Ven in the men’s singles final.
Throughout the tournament, both players showcased commendable performances, overcoming tough opponents to claim their respective titles. However, the Indian mixed doubles pair of Sanjai Srivatsa Dhanraj and Maneesha K faced disappointment in the final, succumbing to a defeat against Malaysia’s Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien.
