Beer Bust: Rs 98 Crore Confiscated, Factory Seized

In a factory in Himmavu village of Nanjangudu taluk under Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency, Beer worth Rs 98 crore was confiscated.

An Anonymous person called Lok Sabha Constituency Election Officer CT Shilpanag and informed him about the illegal storage of liquor. Later, Shilpanag instructed Excise Deputy Commissioner Nagashayan to take further action.

Nagashayan, after visiting and inspecting the unit of United Breweries Limited, conducted an operation with the Joint Commissioner of Excise, Mysore Division, and recovered a total of Rs 98 crore 52 lakh value of illegal liquor has been seized and a case has been registered against the brewery unit.

Speaking about this, Nagashayana said that when the physical inventory was checked along with the account book of the unit, more than 7 thousand different brands of beer cartons were found in the inventory room than the account book inventory. In this background the act is in violation of various Sections of  Excise Act, Charter of Karnataka Breweries and Rules of the Karnataka Excise Act Breweries, 1967,  Bottling Rule 13 of the Karnataka Excise (Inventory, Transport, Import and Export of Narcotic Substances) (Karnataka) Rules 1967.

He said that 17 accused who are missing in the Brewery case will be traced and arrested by confiscating various items of raw material in the silos tank amounting to 6,50,458 kg.

He said that the act of confiscation will come under the jurisdiction of Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha Constituency and a case of illegal stocking has been registered as the model code of conduct is in force.
