The city has geared up for Holi celebration with idols of Kamanna and Rati being installed in public places, and children gathering in the small tents pitched in front of the idols, beating drums and dancing. Holi is popularly known as the Indian festival of spring, the festival of colours or the festival of love.
The idols of Kamanna and Rati have been installed at public places in almost all the localities of Dharwad on Sunday and the people of all age groups are thronging the venues to see these idols
The Holi celebration committee has planned ‘Bannada Utsava’ on Tuesday at Karnataka College Circle. Rain dance, pot breaking competition and cultural competitions along with splashing of colours will be the main features of the festivities. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MLA Arvind Bellad and others will be present.
Though the idols of Kama and Rati are installed at several public places in the city, the idols at Bhoosgalli and Kamanakatti have been attracting thousands of people from the past 150 years.
Bhoospet in Mangalawar Pet boasts of beautiful idols of Kama and Rati made of wood 152 years ago. The idol of Kama is decorated with a silk dhoti, silk shirt, shawl and garlands made of sugar and flowers. The idol of Rati is draped in a silk saree and blouse, ornaments and garland made of sugar.
Another place that attracts people is Kamana Katti where Sarakari Kamanna idol is installed by Hegdi family in front of their residence.
