India’s UN Ambassador, Ruchira Kamboj, emphasized India’s commitment to women-led development initiatives during a special event at the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women. Kamboj outlined India’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, aiming for full and equal participation of women across all sectors.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Kamboj stressed the shift from women’s development to women-led development, recognizing women’s empowerment as pivotal for India’s progress. She cited multifaceted strategies addressing health, safety, education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Kamboj showcased India’s initiatives, including the One-Stop Centre Scheme supporting women affected by violence and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program combating female feticide. Notably, India boasts a significant increase in women’s participation in STEM disciplines and civil aviation.

With over 67,000 women directors across startups and 10% of funds reserved for women-led startups under the Start-Up India Stand-Up India scheme, Kamboj emphasized India’s strides towards gender equality in entrepreneurship.

As the UN focuses on gender equality and women’s empowerment, Kamboj’s remarks underscore India’s commitment to realizing a self-empowered India where women play a central role in shaping its future.
