AICC Screening Committee Member and KPCC Vice-President Ivan D’Souza said that the BJP has been exhibiting its double standards when it comes to the Constitution. While BJP upholds the Constitution and accepts secularism, their MP from Uttara Kannada Anantkumar Hegde mulls amendment to the Constitution, D’Souza said.
The former MLC told media persons that the BJP leadership should clarify as to how such a statement from a former Union Minister of state can be considered as personal remarks.
He has told party workers that the party needed to win 400 Lok Sabha seats this time to amend the Constitution. This is not the personal statement of Hegde. This is the inner decision of the BJP and RSS. The 135 crore population has accepted the Constitution and elections are being held on the basis of it. However, the BJP is trying to misguide people, he said, adding that BJP needs to help Anantkumar Hegde to get good treatment.
The word secularism was missing in the preamble of the Constitution’s copies that were distributed to the MPs in Parliament, and an organisation burnt a copy of the Constitution. However, the BJP has not raised its voice against it, D’Souza said, adding that the BJP has no respect for the Constitution.
I think the BJP has an agenda of introducing a Constitution of their own for the nation. The BJP lacks confidence to suspend Hegde, because the party is also involved in his statement, D’Souza alleged.
On the notification for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), D’Souza said that the BJP government wants to hide all its failures through the implementation of the CAA, before the Lok Sabha election.
