Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria dismissed reports suggesting that Virat Kohli might be overlooked for the upcoming T20 World Cup, asserting that the dynamic batsman’s inclusion in the Indian squad is inevitable.
Amidst speculation surrounding the national selectors and team management contemplating tough decisions ahead of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refrained from interference, leaving the selection committee and team management to make the final call. While rumours circulated that Kohli might face exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad, Danish Kaneria brushed off the social media frenzy, emphasizing the importance of not taking online chatter too seriously.
It’s inconceivable to ignore someone like Virat. He deserves a spot in India’s squad. With his consistent run-scoring, there’s no question that Kohli should be in the squad, not just to contribute on the field but also to mentor younger players, remarked the former Pakistan cricketer.
Additionally, Danish lauded spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s resurgence, attributing his regained confidence to the support from the captain, team management, and the backing of the new selection committee.
Looking ahead to the Indian Premier League (IPL) commencing on March 22, Danish urged the BCCI and star players to prioritize player fitness. He stressed the need for managing workload, particularly for core players like Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, to prevent injuries.
