The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has approached the Telangana High Court, seeking an injunction against the release of the upcoming controversial film ‘Razakar: The Silent Genocide of Hyderabad’. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by APCR is scheduled for a hearing on March 11, with Advocate Afsar Jahan representing the organization in the HC. The multilingual movie, produced by a BJP leader, is slated for release on March 15.

APCR’s decision to file the PIL stems from mounting concerns regarding the potentially inflammatory and divisive content of the film, which has raised fears of stoking communal tensions. Nadeem Khan, Secretary of APCR, spearheaded the initiative following a unanimous decision by the organization’s National Executive Committee, underscoring their commitment to upholding civil liberties and fostering communal harmony. The movie’s second trailer was released last month, with the first trailer unveiled in September last year ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections. During the BRS government’s tenure, there were deliberations on potential actions to address concerns about the film’s impact on communal harmony. Minister K.T. Rama Rao assured that discussions would be held with the Censor Board and Telangana Police to uphold law and order. The movie depicts the atrocities committed by Razakars against the Hindu population post-Independence, shedding light on a pivotal period in Hyderabad State’s history. Produced by BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy and directed by Yata Satyanarayana, the film aims to educate the new generation about the events following India’s Independence in Hyderabad State. It is set for release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
