DRI Hands Over Parakeets To Pilikula

The Pilikula Biological Park here has received nine parakeets from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The parakeets, which were protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, were seized by the DRI officials from an illegal captivity.
Pilikula Biological Park Director Jayaprakash Bhandary said that the DRI had seized the parakeets that were found in captivity near Surathkal.

The DRI have handed over seven red-breasted parakeets and two plum-headed parakeets to the Pilikula Biological Park, after registering a case, to keep them in safe custody. The veterinarians have been checking its health conditions, providing proper treatment, and feeding them, he said.
He added that the parakeets have been kept in quarantine in the biological park as it was brought from outside, saying that the seized parakeets are not mixed with other birds in the park. It will be decided about the future course of action regarding the upkeep of the birds as per court’s direction, he added.
