Mutts Should Provide Free Education To Poor Children: MLA Basanagowda Yatnal

MLA Basanagowda Yatnal said that Mutts should provide free education to poor children in Medical and Engineering colleges. He spoke after receiving the Vishwamate Punyakoti Award at the 5th Tungarathi programme held in the premises of Punyakoti Mutt.

When I once asked a Guru to give a Rs 2 lakh discount on the fees of a poor student, he refused. Then he questioned how it is possible to facilitate poor children in educational institutions run by Mutts. He said that work should be done to uplift the poor children of the respective communities. 

He added that, when BS Yediyurappa was the CM, he appointed an administrator for the temple in my constituency and added it to Mujarai’s jurisdiction. Rudrappa Lamani, who was the Mujarai minister in the Congress government that came later, again handed over the temple to the organisation, he said.

Balayogi Jagadishwara Shri of Punyakoti Mutt, said that with the cooperation of the government and the devotees, a public Mutt and a spiritual atmosphere have been created on the banks of the forested river. He said that a unique program of worshiping the Tungabhadra River, which is the basis of our existence, is being celebrated. Nanjavadhuta of Spatikpuri Mahasanthana was present. Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rudrappa Lamani who received the Sajjana Jananayak Award spoke. Gram Panchayat President Rupa Karura presided. MLA BP Harish, Prakash Koliwad, former MLA HS Shivashankar, JD(S) leader Manjunath Gouda Shivanna and others also participated.
