Biden Challenges Trump’s Economic Claims At Democratic Event

Washington

President Joe Biden took aim at former President Donald Trump’s assertions that the economy declined under Democratic leadership. Biden refuted the claims, highlighting recent GDP figures indicating a 2.5% growth in 2023, asserting that the economy had flourished more in the last six months than during Trump’s entire four-year term. Speaking at the South Carolina Democratic Party’s ‘First In the Nation Dinner,’ Biden credited the voters for his 2020 victory, simultaneously labeling Trump a loser. This rhetoric could become a focal point in Biden’s re-election campaign, emphasizing his accomplishments and rallying supporters with the chant of a promise made, and a promise kept! The remarks come ahead of the Democrats’ first primary contest of the 2024 election cycle. Biden, joined by prominent surrogates, including Governor Gavin Newsom, DNC chairman Jaime Harrison, and Rep. Jim Clyburn, launched a campaign blitz. Despite interruptions by protesters calling for a Gaza ceasefire, Biden addressed concerns about his cognitive functions by turning the spotlight on Trump’s mental fitness. The president, 81, criticized Trump, 77, for recent campaign trail blunders, marking one of the sharpest attacks on Trump’s mental acuity to date.
