Chief Minister Eknath Shinde returned from the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, with significant investment commitments totaling Rs 3.53 lakh crore for Maharashtra. The four-day visit resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across sectors such as steel, information technology, green energy, agriculture, logistics, and electronics. The investments, distributed across different regions, aim to foster all-round development, extending from major urban centers like Mumbai and Pune to remote areas like Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. Over Rs 100,000 crore of the total commitments come from global multinational corporations, with the rest sourced from Indian corporations and prominent business houses. The signed agreements are anticipated to generate over two lakh jobs in the state, further emphasizing Maharashtra’s image as an investment-friendly destination. Eknath Shinde, expressing satisfaction with the outcome, highlighted the state’s people-oriented policies, focus on industrialization, skilled manpower, and prompt decision-making. On the first day in Davos, six agreements were signed with major companies, attracting investments exceeding Rs 102,000 crore and creating over 26,000 jobs. The following day witnessed the signing of MoUs worth over Rs 208,850 crore with eight conglomerates, contributing to the creation of around 152,000 jobs. On the final day, agreements worth approximately Rs 42,825 crore were inked with six industries, generating an additional 13,000 jobs. The total investment commitments and job creation resulting from the Davos visit represent significant growth compared to the previous year. The major agreements included investments from Inox Air Products, B.C. Jindal Group, JSW Steel, Adani Group, India Jewellery Park, Hyundai Motors, and others. While the government touts these achievements, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has raised questions about the investments and achievements claimed during the Davos trip.
