Eighteen-year-old chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has surpassed Viswanathan Anand in live classical chess rankings after defeating reigning world champion Ding Liren at the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. Praggnanandhaa climbed two spots to 11th overall with 2748.3 rating points, surpassing Anand by 0.3 points. The young chess player’s sensational win against Ding Liren in the fourth round of the prestigious tournament marked him as the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to beat a reigning world champion in classical chess. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to social media to applaud Praggnanandhaa’s remarkable triumph. In his post on ‘X’, Tendulkar praised the 18-year-old for dominating the game and rising to become India’s top-rated player, acknowledging the young talent’s achievement.
