Three persons who broke into a house in Athani taluk on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border and abducted children have been arrested.
The child thieves broke into the house of Vijaya Desai, a resident of Swamiplot, Athani Hulagabala Road, picked up two children of three and four years and ran away. On receiving the information, the Athani police formed three teams and succeeded in protecting the children at the inter-state border in a cinematic manner, and one of the accused was shot dead.
Ravi Kiran Kamalakara, Shahrukh Sheikh of Bihar, Samba Kamble of Hathakangala taluk of Kolhapur district were arrested, out of which Sambha Kamble was shot in the leg by Athani police and he was admitted to Athani Government Hospital.
When the criminals tried to attack the policemen who stopped the kidnappers’ car on the Kohalli Sindura route of the Maharashtra border, the police fired in self-defense and the accused Samba Kamble was injured. The police personnel of the Athani station, Jameer Dane and Ramesh Hadimani were also injured in the incident and they were also admitted to the government hospital. Bhima Shankar Guleda said. The operation was conducted on the complaint of Vijaya Desai, the father of the abducted children, and the children were reunited with their mother, and this incident created anxiety in the border villages. The swift action of the Athani police has been widely praised. A case of kidnapping has been registered in Athani police station.
