Makara Sankranti was observed in a special way by the Dakshina Kannada district Adult Education Committee, Bharatha Jnana Vijnana Samiti and Chinthana Samskrithika Balaga at district prison.
A team of young artistes led by Moodambail Government Higher Primary School Headmaster Aravinda Kudla and Baikampady Government High School Teacher Premanath Acharya sang awareness songs, folk songs and Lavani, and entertained the inmates.
Prison Superintendent BT Obaleshappa said that such programmes help to reform the minds of the inmates and help to bring them to the mainstream of society.
District Legal Services Authority Panel Advocate Sukesh Kumar Shetty spoke on the legal assistance from the authority. Students from Canara High School and St Aloysius High School presented awareness songs before the undertrials.
