The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opened applications for a position in the senior men’s national selection committee. The current five-member committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has sparked speculation about potential changes, with former fast-bowler Salil Ankola considered a possible candidate for replacement. The existing committee, including Ankola, S Sharath, Subroto Banerjee, and SS Das, was appointed on January 7, 2023, with Chetan Sharma as the lead selector. Following Sharma’s resignation on February 17, 2023, Agarkar assumed the role of chief selector on July 4 of the same year. The BCCI’s job description for the new position outlines criteria requiring candidates to have played a minimum of seven Test matches or 30 first-class games, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class fixtures. Additionally, candidates should have retired from competitive cricket at least five years ago. Applicants must not have been a member of any Cricket Committee for a total of five years, as defined in the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of BCCI. While the notice does not specify an ideal age criterion, the deadline for applications is 6 pm IST on January 25. The BCCI will conduct personal interviews with shortlisted candidates after screening applications.
