Legislature, Presiding Officers Go Vocal About Fall In Parliamentary Standards

The function to release five volumes of Sadanadalli HK Patil at Karnatak University campus turned out to be a forum for a critical view of the functioning of legislative assembly and legislative council, the quality of debate and behaviour of the legislators in the House.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly UT Khader, Chairman of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti, former Chairmen of the Council BL Shankar, VR Sudarshan and Veeranna Mattikatti, Law Minister HK Patil who spoke at the function attended by present and former legislators among others, rued the deterioration in the parliamentary standards in the functioning of the legislature sessions.

They opined that there was a sharp decline in the quality of debates in both the Houses and the behaviour of the legislators has left much to be desired. They strongly advocated the need for electoral reforms.
Speaker UT Khader who released the volumes said speeches by HK Patil in the House will serve as guides for the future generation and politicians. Law Minister HK Patil said that Speakers need to take revolutionary steps to restore the dignity and decorum of the House.Former Chairman of the Council Veeranna Mattikatti, Labour Minister Santosh Lad, Karnatak University Vice-Chancellor KB Gudasi and Prof Tejaswi Kattimani also spoke.
The volumes have been published by Karnataka Researchers Forum.
