The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) have appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to sanitize electoral rolls and ensure fair elections in Andhra Pradesh. TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and JSP leader Pawan Kalyan met with the Election Commission team, requesting special measures to save democracy in the state. Alleging malpractices by the ruling YSRCP Government, Naidu claimed that bogus voters were being enrolled, leading to a revolt among the people. The leaders reported to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar about malpractices in the Special Summary Revision (SSR) and called for a thorough investigation and penal action. As elections approach for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly along with Lok Sabha polls, the ECI team is reviewing preparations. TDP and JSP leaders highlighted issues with the SSR process, citing non-compliance by District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers under pressure from the ruling party. They expressed concern that the field machinery was neglecting defects in electoral rolls, linking it to the alleged oppressive rule of the YSRCP Government. The leaders reported draft election rolls published without processing 10.32 lakh applications, over 4 lakh cases of non-deletion, and irregularities in Form-7 applications. They also raised concerns about the appointment of village secretariat staff as Booth Level Officers, unofficial participation of volunteers in surveys, and their influence on voters, urging the ECI to ensure transparent and fair elections.
