Supreme Court Extends Interim Medical Bail For Former Kerala Chief Secretary

New Delhi

The Supreme Court has extended the interim medical bail granted to M. Sivasankar, the former Principal Secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in connection with the LIFE Mission case. The extension comes until the next week, following Sivasankar’s recent medical examination at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry. The apex court had previously directed Sivasankar to undergo a medical examination at JIPMER, responding to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) request for an examination in a government hospital outside Kerala. The ED had opposed the extension of interim bail, arguing that Sivasankar’s application was based on certifications issued by private hospitals. In August of the previous year, the Supreme Court had ordered the release of Sivasankar on interim bail, citing his serious health issues and the need for expert treatment. The ongoing legal proceedings involve money laundering charges against Sivasankar in the LIFE Mission case.
