Laksha Deepotsava was held at the historic Mahatobhara Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple on Tuesday night under the leadership of the temple’s Brahmasri Kuntaru Ravisha Tantri. Various religious programmes were held in grandeur along with the festivals of the deity as per tradition.
In the morning, lakhs of bilvarchanas and at night, the chariot of the temple lit up all over the street. Rangolis were placed along the chariot street. The light of the forehead shone on it. After the lighting of the lamp, devara bali utsava, bandi utsava and theppotsava were held.
In the morning, laksha bilvarchana was performed, followed by deepa namaskar to Lord Mahalingeshwara by the students of the religious education scheme and religious satsangs, shlokas and bhajans. Later, a bhajan programme was performed by the Bhajana Mandali of Kadri Manjunatha Temple, Mangaluru, at Devadala Gopuram.
The temple chariot lit the lamp on the colourful rangolis that adorned the street. Brahmasree Guru Tantri lit a lamp placed in a banana pole on ratha street and flagged off the Lakshmana Deepotsava. Devotees lit lamps along the chariot street. Oil and wicks were provided by the temple. The distribution of money was done at a low rate by the Potters’ Cottage Industries Association. The daily kar sevaks of the temple cooperated in lighting the lamp on the chariot street. The attendants were involved in the work of the traditional festival.
On Tuesday night, after the worship of the deity, the festival bali of the deity started and the tantra round was performed in the indoor and outdoor courtyards, the dress round in the courtyard and the ball round. After the katte puja at khandanayakana katte, instrument, bhajan, band, sarvavadya rounds were held and chandramandala festival and theppotsava were held.
