As the annual Groundnut Fair in Bengaluru concludes, it leaves behind a festive atmosphere and impressive figures. The fair, organized in collaboration with the Mujarai Department and BBMP, attracted a significant crowd, with over 6.50 lakh visitors from Saturday to Tuesday, engaging in transactions worth crores of rupees. Taking place every year on the last Monday of the Kartika month, the fair transforms Bull Temple Road into a vibrant space, temporarily restricting vehicular traffic to enhance the experience for attendees. Housewives, beneficiaries of government schemes like Shakti Yojana, and college students were among the diverse crowd, contributing to the lively ambiance. This year, organizers emphasized a plastic-free fair, and the efforts paid off with strict monitoring by corporation officials. Paper covers and cloth bags were provided, and various groups, including NGOs and college students, actively promoted a plastic-free environment. Devotees visiting the fair were treated to prasadam like Palau and Bisbelebath, and there was a noticeable increase in visitors to the temples of Dodda Ganapati and Dodda Basavanna. The success of this year’s fair sets the stage for future editions, maintaining the tradition while prioritizing environmental consciousness.
