Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has pledged to donate one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to aid the state’s recovery from the impact of Cyclone Michaung. Stalin has also urged all Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to contribute to the relief fund.

In addition to this, Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an immediate interim relief fund of Rs 5,060 crores to address the widespread devastation caused by the cyclone. The Tamil Nadu IAS Officers’ Association has joined relief efforts by contributing a day’s salary of its members to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

As the state continues to grapple with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena reported that 9,000 officials from other districts have been deployed in Chennai for relief work. Efforts include pumping out stormwater from low-lying areas, restoring traffic on most roads, and coordinating with other departments for essential services. The police force has been actively involved in distributing food packets to affected areas and pumping out water in coordination with various departments. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has assured all possible help from the Central Government, and the first instalment of the Central share to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) amounting to Rs 450 crore has been released in response to the flood-like situation caused by heavy rainfall in Chennai.
