Currency Notes Worth Rs 7 Lakh Burnt After Thieves Try To Open ATM Using Gas Cutter

Currency notes worth Rs 7 lakh stored in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) were reduced to ashes after a gang of thieves attempted to break it open using a gas cutter at Nelamangala on the city outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday night, police said. Two masked men attempted to cut open the ATM using a gas cutter which was located at a private building in Nelamangala Town in Bengaluru Rural District. Axis Bank personnel reportedly called the building owner and informed him about the robbery attempt after they checked the CCTV footage. The thieves fled the spot leaving the gas cutter equipment behind after the building owners rushed to the spot. Axis Bank personnel visited the spot and inspected the ATM which was partially cut using the gas cutter. The ATM was loaded with Rs 500 and Rs 100 currency notes. Smoke was emerging from burning notes when bank personnel opened the ATM. A case has been registered regarding the incident at the Nelamangala Town Police Station. The police are trying to trace the criminals based on the CCTV footage located in the area. In July, The Parappana Agrahara Police arrested four men who stole Rs 24.1 lakh cash from an ICICI Bank ATM located on Hosaroad in Bengaluru. One of the four accused worked with a crew that loaded cash into the ATM. Accused Arul had loaded Rs 32 lakh into the ATM a day before the robbery and left the safe door of the ATM open. Arul and three of his friends visited the ATM on July 5 and robbed over Rs 24 lakh of cash from the ATM.
