The construction of the Dakshina Kannada DC office complex has hit a roadblock, with the project stalled halfway and costs escalating due to poor planning and delays. Initiated during the Congress rule in 2014, the project faced initial challenges as environmentalists raised objections to tree cutting on the proposed land. After resolving these issues, the housing board began the construction in March 2018 on a 5.8-acre site. The original estimated cost was Rs 41 crore but was later increased to Rs 55 crore. As of September 2019, major construction, roofing, and other components were completed. However, subsequent works were delayed, leading to an estimate of Rs 29 crore for pending work, which wasn’t approved by the government. The estimate was later revised to Rs 32 crore after additional discussions. Despite changes in government and visits by local representatives, the project remains incomplete, raising concerns among taxpayers. The delay has also impacted the local real estate market, with land prices in the vicinity skyrocketing due to the shift of the DC office complex to Padil. With residents expressing frustration and the estimated cost continuously rising, there is a call for swift action and approval to ensure the completion of the project in the near future.
