Kalaburagi
The Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority (KDA) is grappling with a backlog of more than three thousand low-cost housing plots awaiting allocation in various housing projects across the city. Despite completing allotments in projects like the Kusanur housing project and Vajpayee housing estates on Shahabad Road, surplus plots remain unallocated. While the allotment process for the Hagaraga Cross project, which introduced a thousand new plots, received about 400 applications, it was halted due to the implementation of the code of conduct. The authority is considering re-inviting applications, with the relevant file currently under the Collector’s review. The KDA’s efforts to provide affordable housing have been seen as a reliable option for citizens, particularly those from economically backward backgrounds. Plots developed for commercial purposes at the site of MSK Mill are also awaiting auction. The absence of a appointed Chairman for the Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority, with the District Collector currently serving in that capacity, has led to calls for immediate action to be taken for the allotment of plots. Residents emphasize the need for a meeting to address pending allotments and the development of infrastructure in designated areas. The situation reflects both the demand for affordable housing solutions and the challenges faced by urban development authorities in meeting these demands efficiently.
