An official release from the state government stated on Wednesday that Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, which was once known for being a Naxalitarian stronghold, has made a remarkable comeback and is now the second most important district in the state’s development process, after Noida.

As per the official announcement, 43 investment projects worth approximately Rs 79,000 crore are scheduled to be implemented in Sonbhadra. It is currently positioned to overtake Noida as the second growth engine propelling Uttar Pradesh’s advancement.

It is important to note that despite Sonbhadra’s wealth of natural resources, industrialists were hesitant to invest there due to Naxal extortion threats. Due to decades of lawlessness and Naxal activity, major corporations have historically refrained from investing in Sonbhadra.

The planned investments have the potential to both spur Purvanchal’s development and advance the state as a whole. Notably, two large-scale projects worth roughly Rs 35,000 crore in the energy and renewable energy sectors are about to get underway in Sonbhadra.

The Chief Minister has instructed various departments to carry out projects valued at over Rs 13 lakh crore during the first phase of the groundbreaking ceremony. Given that the Yogi government is concentrating on luring investments to all 75 of the state’s districts, the investments in Sonbhadra take on significance.

The increase in Sonbhadra’s stature has drawn a lot of interest. Significant investments are also prepared for first phase implementation in Chandauli and Mirzapur, two districts affected by the Naxals.
