Indian Men’s Hockey Team midfielder, Hardik Singh, has been nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award 2023, adding a special recognition to his eventful year. Despite facing an injury setback during the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, he bounced back to win the Asian Games Gold. Hardik expressed his amazement and honor at the nomination, considering it a dream come true for any sportsperson. Reflecting on the nomination, Hardik acknowledged that while the injury during the World Cup was heartbreaking, he is content with his overall performance in 2023. He highlighted the significance of winning the FIH Pro League campaign, the Asian Champions Trophy title, and the Gold medal at the Asian Games. Known for his flamboyance in the midfield, Hardik has become a pivotal member of the Indian team. His leadership skills were evident as he served as the deputy to Harmanpreet Singh during the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 and the Asian Games 2023, where India secured Gold medals. In response to his transition into the leadership group, Hardik credited his seniors, including Sardar Singh, PR Sreejesh, Manpreet Singh, and Harmanpreet Singh, for teaching him how to lead from the front. He expressed his readiness for the leadership role and emphasized the importance of taking responsibility to bring out the best in himself and motivate teammates to perform at their peak on the pitch.
