Candidates will be allowed to appear for the board examinations scheduled to be held on November 18 and 19. The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has extended the conditional permission given to the board board exams held on October 28 and 29 wearing headgears. Therefore, students can appear for the examinations wearing headgears.
KEA has issued a separate notification on the issue of headscarves. The Court also extended the conditional permission given to students to wear headscarves for the first phase of examinations held on October 28 and 29 for the second phase of examinations to be held on November 18 and 19.
The girl students who are going to appear for the examination wearing headscarves have been asked to enter the examination hall, but they have to be present at the examination centre two hours before the commencement of the examination. They should be screened by women staff. The examination authority has clarified that they will not be allowed to enter the examination centre wearing headscarves if they arrive after the stipulated time for screening.
Women candidates appearing will be allowed to wear mangalsutra and toe rings. KEA has framed a dress code for the examinations to be held on November 18 and 19 in the wake of a controversy over the removal of mangalsutras and anklets of housewives who were candidates in the recently held KPSC examination. Accordingly, married women will be allowed to appear for the examinations wearing mangalya and anklets. However, women candidates are prohibited from wearing any kind of metal jewellery.
Ramya, Executive Director, Karnataka Examination Authority, said that the candidates must follow the KEA rules, failing which action will be taken against the candidates as per rules.
