The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) reached a significant milestone as the construction of piers (pillars) for the elevated railway line in Corridor-2 initiated. Corridor-2, known as the Mallige route, spans 25 km from Chikkabanavara to Baiyappanahalli, with 16.5 km at ground level and an 8.5 km elevated section from Hebbal to Yeshwantpur. The South Western Railway allocated 157 acres of land to the Karnataka Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation (K-RAID) for Corridor-2. Construction company L&T has commenced work, starting with the installation of 30 pillars from the Hebbal side. The elevated section will consist of 400 pillars, spaced 31 meters apart. Each pier, buried three times deeper into the ground than its visible height, averages 30 feet above and 90 feet below the ground. The construction involves the placement of a pile (underground pillar), a pile cap, and a crash barrier. The RCC pier is then constructed above. The activities, including pile cap, U girder, and I girder manufacturing, take place on-site and at the Gollahalli facility. The project encompasses the construction of 12 stations within a distance of 1.5 km to 2.5 km, with elevated stations at Benniganahalli, Kasthuri Nagar, Seva Nagar, Banasawadi, Nagawara, Kanakanagar, Hebbala, Mattikere, Yeshavantpura, Shettyhalli, Maidarhalli, and Chikkabanavara, including two elevated interchange stations. K-Ride officials emphasized the continued progress and comprehensive planning of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.
