Justice N Santosh Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court, stressed the importance of creating a society free from corruption, to ensure a brighter future for the children attending schools.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the Vigilance Awareness Week organised by the New Mangaluru Port Authority (NMPA), at the BDC auditorium.
Justice Hegde urged for a society that shuns dishonesty and values honesty to provide a safer tomorrow for the younger generation.
By eliminating greed and corruption from the hearts of the youth, we can pave the way for a nation free from corruption, he noted.
Subhash Chandra Khuntia, former chief secretary of state government, was the guest of honour, and AV Ramana, chairman of NMPA, presided. Justice Hegde inaugurated the online complaints portal of NMPA.
As per the directives of the Central Vigilance Commission, Vigilance Awareness Week-2023 was observed from October 30 to November 5, with the theme, Say no to Corruption, Commit to the Nation, at the New Mangalore Port.
AV Ramana launched the Vigilance Awareness Week, by administering the integrity pledge to the employees.
This was followed by a signature campaign and presentation by the Chief Vigilance Officer, NMPA, on the identification and implementation of systemic improvements to the senior officers of the port.
A talk on the importance of preventive vigilance in combating corruption by Vijaya Dat Kagita, Chief Vigilance Officer of Mormugao Port was organised for the port employees. Under the public outreach programme, a walkathon was also held.
Apart from this, sand art created at Panambur Beach, depicting anti-corruption awareness.
In addition, various competitions with relevant themes, such as writing slogans and essay writing were organised among the school children in the vicinity of the port.
