In the wake of the lunar eclipse, purification work and special pujas were performed at various temples in the state. The last lunar eclipse of the year began at 1:05 am on Saturday and ended at 2.24 pm.

As the eclipse came to an end, special pujas were performed at the Kapileshwar temple in the city,  popularly known as Dakshina Kashi. An archana was performed to Kapileswara through bilva patre. Devotees visited the temple and had darshan.

The entry of devotees to the temple was restricted since Saturday evening. As soon as the eclipse was over, the entire devasthanam was cleaned and devotees were allowed to have darshan, the temple board said.

The lunar eclipse was visible in Malnad. There was some disruption in the view as the clouds were moving during the eclipse. An eclipse occurs when the earth’s shadow falls on the surface of the moon. In this case, the sun, earth and moon are in the same line.

Devotees were banned in most of the temples in the district since Saturday evening. After the eclipse, the temples were completely cleaned in the morning and special pujas were performed. The puja at the chowdeshwari temple in Sikandur, the famous temple in the state, began at 4 am as usual. Homas and havans were performed. Devotees are allowed to have darshan of Chowdeshwari.

A purification drive was carried out at Sri Chidambareshwara Temple near Ring Road on Managooli Road in the city. The homa-havans were performed under the leadership of priest Vijay Joshi. Special pujas were performed to Lord Chidambareshwara. Hundreds of devotees had visited the temple.
