The war of words between BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra escalated as Dubey criticized Moitra for giving interviews to the media while allegedly avoiding the Parliament’s Ethics Committee in the ‘cash for Parliament questions’ controversy. Dubey expressed his views in an X statement, stating that the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha is conducting an investigation into allegations of corruption that could jeopardize national security. He emphasized that the details of the investigation are confidential. He pointed out that the accused MP had not made time to appear before the committee but had managed to find time to grant media interviews. Dubey mentioned that he had refrained from giving any interviews to the media on this matter to uphold the dignity of Parliament. Dubey also mentioned Darshan Hiranandani, a friend of the accused MP, as being responsible for the MP’s overseas travel, accommodations, valuable items, and travel expenses in cash, as stated in an affidavit. He emphasized the importance of waiting for the committee’s report and clarified that the issue is not about party politics or gender but rather concerns national security, corruption, the dignity of Parliament, and the conduct of MPs. Dubey urged that Parliament should be the deciding authority on this matter.
