City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand emphasized the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras in bustling commercial areas, including hotels, bars, restaurants, and shops, where the public congregates in large numbers. The directive was announced following a monthly public relations meeting conducted by the North East Division Police at Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhawan in the Yelahanka suburb. As per the Public Safety Act, businesses hosting over 100 people are obligated to install CCTV cameras, with the guidance of the police. These cameras should cover the surrounding road areas, maintain high quality, increased storage capacity, and adhere to prescribed maintenance standards, as advised by law enforcement officials. During the meeting, citizens expressed grievances about haphazard parking in public areas, especially near hotels and restaurants, causing inconvenience to the public. Responding promptly, the commissioner instructed local police to take necessary measures to address this issue effectively. Furthermore, concerns were raised about unauthorized activities near bakeries, including smoking and instances of harassment. Acknowledging these issues, Commissioner Dayanand reiterated the ban on smoking in the vicinity of bakeries. He directed local authorities to ensure the placement of ‘no smoking’ signages near all bakery establishments to enforce this regulation. In an effort to combat drug-related issues, the commissioner highlighted the ongoing proactive approach taken by officers and staff. Regular visits to schools and colleges on the last day of each month aim to raise awareness about the dangers of drug networks and prevent their influence on the younger populace. The directive to install CCTV cameras aims to enhance security in high-traffic areas, while the swift responses to public grievances underscore the commitment of law enforcement in addressing community concerns and maintaining public safety.
