Bengaluru

The crackdown on illegal buildings in Whitefield continues as Joint Director of Urban Planning (JDTP) and engineers from Brihat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) identified 40 illegal buildings in the area. Notices have been issued to the owners of 27 of these buildings, and the remaining 13 will receive notices shortly. There is a possibility that these buildings may be demolished within 90 days, as per regulations. Civic activist Sandeep Anirudhan pointed out that these buildings in the Whiterose layout were constructed by out-of-state residents with the sole aim of making a profit. They failed to obtain the necessary permissions from civic bodies for these structures. Many buildings, originally designated for two stories, were found to have at least six stories. These illegal constructions lack proper roads, drainage systems, underground connections, and water supply lines, which poses significant problems for the community. Officials have emphasized that criminal cases should be filed against the owners and builders to discourage further violations. Sewage flowing on the roads not only impacts the health of local residents but also pollutes the groundwater. Joint Commissioner of Mahadevpur Zone, Dr. Dakshaini K, has issued instructions to take action in accordance with the High Court’s orders. She has directed JDTP and BBMP marshals to stop the construction of illegal buildings. Some property owners in and around Marathahalli have been constructing buildings in violation of rules due to financial gain and high rental prospects. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has also firmly instructed the authorities to follow the High Court’s directive in identifying and demolishing such structures.
