A 20-year-old woman has reported a disturbing incident where she was allegedly attacked by her roommate’s boyfriend in Ejipura. She also claims that the female police officer handling her complaint exhibited insensitivity and discriminatory behavior, seemingly influenced by the victim’s North East Indian origin. According to the victim, she was brutally assaulted in her flat near the Ejipura bus stop when she answered her roommate’s boyfriend’s phone call. She explained that she picked up the call because her roommate was in the shower, and she wanted to inform him that she would call back once her roommate was available. However, the caller interpreted her response as rudeness, leading to a violent attack that resulted in severe injuries. After the assault, she was rushed to St. John’s Hospital for immediate medical treatment. The victim’s ordeal did not end there. When she went to the Vivek Nagar police station with her friends to file a report, she claims that she faced further distress. She alleges that a police officer made jokes and displayed a dismissive attitude. Despite a language barrier (as officers spoke in Kannada), the derogatory remarks were clear, and the police did not take her seriously. The victim, after hours of perseverance and multiple revisions, managed to have an FIR registered under sections 506, 504, 323, and 354. However, she asserts that the follow-up has been lacking. The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of assault victims and the need for sensitivity and professionalism in the police department.
