Navaratri festival is being celebrated in a grand manner across the state. Vidyarambha has a special significance on the Vijayadashami day of Navratri. On this day, most people write a foreword to their children to learn the alphabet.

The Vidyarambha program of worshipping Mother Sharada is held. It has been a tradition since time immemorial to install Sharada in many places, including devi temples. On this day, thousands of children are educated in different parts of the country. This will pave the way for a bright future for the children.

In a pile of rice, letters are written on the hands of children with a turmeric horn. While this is a normal practice, those who start various practices including music, Veda, dance, etc., also perform the vidyarambha vidhi in front of Sharada.

There is a practice of praying before God while doing any auspicious deeds. Before feeding the small children, they serve annaprasana in front of the deity.  On Vijayadashami day, parents usually come to temples and practice akshara.

There is no obligation to celebrate Vidyarambha on Vijayadashami. Most people prefer aksharabhyasa on Vijayadashami day during Navratri, which is dedicated to the goddess of learning, Sharada. Many others conduct vidyarambha in temples and enrol their children in schools while enrolling them in schools.

Chandrashekhar Aithal, priest of Mangaladevi temple, said, we have been performing this worship at Mangaladevi temple since time immemorial. Worshipping Sharadambe on this day will bring special blessings. It is said that vidyarambha, which started on vijayadashami day, will bring good education and intellect.

Akshara is taught to children in mangaladevi, Kateel, Udupi, Kollur and many other Devi temples in Mangaluru. Thousands of children performed vidyarambha vidhi at vidyarambha held in different parts of the country on Tuesday.
