Broken Water Units Leave People Thirsty, Exposing Clean Water Crisis

Must read

As the Silicon City grapples with persistent water-related challenges amidst the ongoing Cauvery water crisis, residents in Bangalore have been left reeling from the repercussions of dysfunctional and inaccessible clean drinking water facilities. The city’s predicament is further exacerbated by the failure of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to address the dire situation, leading to the closure of essential water purification units across various localities.

Despite the allocation of MLA grants and financial aid from the corporation for the upkeep of these critical water facilities, the non-payment of dues by the BBMP has resulted in the abrupt closure of the Shuddhaghataka units, leaving residents with no option but to traverse long distances in search of potable water. Moreover, the delayed maintenance and neglect of damaged units by the authorities have added to the enduring plight of the citizens.

Amidst allegations of favoritism in awarding tenders for water purifier maintenance to individuals associated with former corporators, the lack of funds allocated to the designated agencies has contributed to the shutdown of numerous clean drinking water units across the city.

The widespread closure of these vital facilities has sparked a public outcry for urgent action and accountability from the local administration, demanding immediate measures to restore access to clean and safe drinking water for all Bangaloreans. As the city grapples with this pressing water crisis, the need for swift intervention and effective governance to address the plight of the residents remains paramount.
