Alleging that a baby died in the womb due to negligence in not treating a woman on time, villagers of Virupapura and leaders of some pro-Dalit organisations staged a protest in front of the Government Hospital in Kushtagi taluk on Wednesday night.

A pregnant woman from Virupapura village in Kushtagi taluk was admitted to the taluk government hospital on Tuesday after she complained of labour pain. Earlier, she had a normal delivery of three children. So, don’t perform unnecessary surgeries, let’s wait and see, the doctor, who examined the woman’s health, told her family. Even after a day, there was no normal delivery. When the pregnant woman was examined again on Wednesday, the baby died in the womb. The doctors performed an emergency surgery to remove the baby boy so that the mother’s health would not be affected.

Angry over the death of the baby boy, the relatives of the woman staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding the suspension of the doctors. They alleged that the child’s death was due to the negligence of the doctors and if the surgery had been performed immediately after reaching the hospital, the child would have survived.
