US-based travel technology company Expedia Group has initiated a second round of layoffs, impacting its product and tech organization. Approximately 100 employees were affected by this move. Expedia Group, which had a workforce of 16,500 employees at the end of 2022, has stated that the reduction of 100 positions represents less than one percent of its global workforce. A company spokesperson commented, We are committed to delivering great travel experiences for our customers as demand remains high. As we align operations to our business transformation, this may result in the elimination of some roles. We remain confident in our strategy and value the contribution of all our employees. While the company confirmed that this was the second round of job cuts in recent months, it did not provide specific details regarding the earlier round. The impacted employees were primarily associated with Expedia Group’s data and AI groups, as reported. In a related development, Microsoft-owned LinkedIn has announced its intention to reduce approximately 668 jobs across various departments, including engineering, product, talent, and finance teams. This decision is being made in response to the platform’s slow revenue growth, which has persisted for eight consecutive quarters.
