Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, has announced the launch of a comprehensive one-month campaign dedicated to curbing industrial pollution in the national capital, commencing from October 20. This decision comes on the heels of a detailed review meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat, which involved the participation of officials from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the Environment Department, and the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).

The scheduled campaign, set to operate until November 20, will witness the deployment of 66 monitoring teams, comprising members from the DPCC and DSIIDC. Notably, the recent conversion of 1,753 registered industrial units in Delhi to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) stands as a pivotal stride in the efforts to combat pollution during the upcoming winter season.

Minister Rai emphasized the significance of the recently introduced Winter Action Plan, featuring 15 key focal points aimed at elevating the air quality in Delhi. This plan places particular emphasis on the diligent monitoring of industrial pollution and the implementation of effective waste management strategies.

Under the ambit of the Industrial Pollution Campaign, patrolling teams will be dispatched across Delhi to closely monitor the proper disposal of industrial waste. The teams from DPCC and DSIIDC will ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations, with periodic reports slated to be submitted to the Environment Department for comprehensive assessment. Stringent measures will be enforced against any detected violations during the inspection process, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of Delhi.
