Hockey India has revealed a 34-member core probable group for the senior women’s national coaching camp, set to commence on October 16 at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru. The camp is scheduled to conclude on October 22, preparing the team for the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023, a prestigious tournament taking place in India for the first time. The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy will feature teams from the reigning Asian Games Champions China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the host nation India. The tournament is set to begin on October 27, with India facing Thailand in their opening match. The core group comprises four goalkeepers, including Savita, Rajani Etimarpu, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Bansari Solanki. The list of defenders includes Deep Grace Ekka, Gurjit Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Akshata Abaso Dhekale, Jyoti Chhatri, and Mahima Chaudhary. The midfielders called up for the camp are Nisha, Salima Tete, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Jyoti, Navjot Kaur, Monika, Mariana Kujur, Sonika, Neha, Baljeet Kaur, Reena Khokhar, Vaishnavi Phalke, and Ajmina Kujur. The forward line is represented by Lalremsiami, Navneet Kaur, Vandana Katariya, Sharmila Devi, Deepika, Sangita Kumari, Mumtaz Khan, Sunelita Toppo, and Beauty Dungdung. Chief Coach Janneke Schopman explained that the upcoming week-long camp is essential for India to assess and improve performance in preparation for important tournaments.
