The district is reeling under drought due to failure of monsoon rains this year. In addition, with no signs of rain in the rabi season, people are migrating to earn a living and rural areas are left without people.

The district, which has always been facing drought, is facing severe drought this year as well, due to the failure of monsoon and rabi rains. There has been a 25 per cent deficit in rainfall during the kharif season. Now it should rain on these days of the monsoon. However, there has been no rain so far. Thus, there is a situation where two seasonal crops do not come. As a result, farmers are migrating to far-flung areas to earn a living in the coming days.

In the district, more than 30 per cent of the people have gone to work in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Bombay, Tamil Nadu, Mysore, Ratnagiri and other places in search of work. As a result, many villages in the district are in a state of panic. They searched all over the village and found only the elderly and young children. Most of the families have locked their homes. In some tandas, school-going children have also been taken away. As a result, the number of children in the school has also come down. Also, school children are deprived of education. The government has already declared as a drought-hit district. However, the government should help the people affected by the drought by taking steps to provide work in the hands of the people as soon as possible without wasting time in the name of submitting the drought study report.
