Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh has said that 188 new Indira Canteens will be opened across the state in the city corporation, municipal corporation and municipal limits. He was speaking to media persons after garlanding the statue of Rani Chennamma.
Asked if Indira canteens were in a lot of trouble, he said, the previous BJP government had brought a bad name to Siddaramaiah’s ambitious scheme and brought it to a situation where the canteens were closed down without proper maintenance. There is no question of abandoning this project for any reason. We are spending Rs 240 crore allocated for the revival of canteens. Regionally, we will prepare and implement a menu for distributing roti meals in Belagavi, ragi mudde in Mysuru region and rice and idli in Bengaluru. We have already conducted a survey in the entire 24 districts and held a meeting, he said.
On the issue of expansion of Belagavi Municipal Corporation, he said, if a proposal is given, we will expand it as per the demand of the MLAs and the people.
Reacting to BJP MLA Yatnal’s statement that Siddaramaiah is a nalayak, he said, the whole world, the country and the state know what a loyal person Siddaramaiah is. Everyone knows that he is giving good governance as Chief Minister. There is no need to answer to nalayaks like the BJP, Suresh said.
Minister Rahim Khan and I are already distributing order letters to regularise the civic workers. Wherever there are less civic workers, it will be filled up. We will provide all facilities including construction of houses for the existing civic workers, basic amenities, health and education for their children, Suresh said.
